A Tasteful Character Creator for an Elegant System

One of Scott’s great joys is playing tabletop games with his friends. There are few better ways to spend an afternoon or evening than eating snacks, rolling dice, and telling fun, fantastic stories together.

When Scott first encountered the Vagabond system, he fell in love with it. The book was simple yet deep, full of information yet elegantly presented. Wanting to help spread the word about this exceptional system, Scott began prototyping a Vagabond character creator, which he calls Visage Tome.

Sharpened Swords and Miro Boards

The first step in this process is to define the site's functionality. Scott created this Miro board to quickly connect the dots on how Phase 1 of this project would function, hoping to create a simple proof of concept before moving on to larger endevors like leveling up, multi-classing, and custom content.

From Pencils to Pixels

While still in the early stages, Visage Tome will allow users to create multiple Heroes, make informed character choices, and level up directly within the web app. Each hero will include a full character sheet, with options to track Damage and Fatigue digitally or print the sheet for use at the table.

Below is the current prototype of the system.

A Complimentary Design

Each element of the design for Visage Tome mirrors similar design choices within the Vagabond book, further tying the two together for a seamless experience for the player.

Tools for Fun

Scott enjoys these types of projects, where he can identify an opporunity and then concept, design, and develop a system to meet user needs, often for audiences who do not yet realize they want or need that type of tool. With the Visage Tome, Scott aims to help players enjoy the character creation process and bring more people into a game he loves.
